Chalet Sonnleitn has a lovely warm and friendly home from home atmosphere with all the right ingredients for the perfect Alpine holiday.
Now in their 5th season, chalet owners Craig and Katharine pride themselves on their warm welcome, delicious home cooked food and good value, high quality accommodation which keeps guests coming back year after year.
The chalet is just minutes from Nassfeld Ski Arena - one of Austria's top ten resorts. The regular free shuttle bus stops just 50m from the chalet's front door.
Chalet Board includes a hearty Austrian breakfast buffet providing the perfect kick-start to the day and this is served in the sunny lounge/dining room which opens out onto the large sun terrace with its lovely piste and mountain views.
After an exhilarating day on the slopes and perhaps a few schnapps in the apres ski huts, guests can look forward to a selection of freshly made cakes, tea, coffee, hot chocolate or Gluhwein.
Dinner is served in the newly renovated Austrian style lounge/dining room which is cosy and candlelit at night - making it the perfect place to unwind with a drink or two after a delicious home cooked four course evening meal with complimentary wine. Special diets are catered for and a separate early tea menu is available for the children.
Katharine prepares all the meals herself using fresh and local ingredients. The menu is varied and includes warming, wholesome soups, locally inspired dishes, a varied and plentiful salad buffet and scrumptious home made desserts.
There is also a cosy lounge with comfortable leather sofas, floor cushions and bean bags and a tv that guests can chill out in, play board games, choose a book from our small library or listen to music.

Nassfeld Ski Arena is Carinthia’s largest resort and ranks as one of Austria’s top ten ski destinations owing to its superb snow record and modern facilities. It is situated right on the border with Italy and has a fantastic sunny climate.
The Millennium Express, the longest gondola in the Alps takes just 17 minutes to transport you to an altitude of over 2,000m giving you access to 110km of slopes, serviced by 30 state of the art lifts.
From the top, stunning views of both the Austrian and Italian Alps can be enjoyed as well a good selection of over 20 mountain bars and restaurants.
Skiing in Nassfeld favours the beginner and intermediate skier and it is a popular choice with families who are attracted by its good ski school and facilities for children.
The Carnia is the longest run at 7.6 km long and you can even try night skiing as part of the run is opened every Wednesday night making it the longest floodlit run in the Alps.
Boarders are also well catered for. There are two parks with quarter pipes, kickers, table tops and a snow cross park which hosted the 2004 Junior World Championships.
There is a vast amount of off piste skiing with the option to ski off piste into Italy – you can even stop off for a pizza while you’re there!
There are 55kms of winter walking trails in the area, mountain trails and plenty of cross country skiing trails.
The resort also has an amazing range of alternative snow equipment which anyone can hire from the New Technology Centre (NTC) on the mountain at the mid-station.
These include the Tube, Snowbike, Skifox, Airboard, Sled, Board Scooter, Carver or Blades – no experience necessary!

The resort is fairly quiet, however, après ski can be enjoyed in the many mountain huts as you make your way down the mountain and usually ends up with a lively après ski party in the traditional log cabin style Baren Hutte at the base of the gondola where you can celebrate the end of the ski day with a schnapps and a dance in your ski boots!
The modern CUBE hotel as a lively night club and sports bar with guest Djs and the 5 star Falkensteiner Hotel has a stylish bar and a modern spa which can be used by non-residents.

We can arrange ski passes, lessons and equipment for you and have it all ready and waiting upon your arrival at the resort. Craig will also accompany his guests to the ski hire depot to make sure things go as smoothly as possible on the first day.
