Skiing in France
France has some of the biggest, best and most extreme ski areas in the world.

Chamonix, at the foot of Mont Blanc, is widely recognised as the extreme ski capital of the world, whereas the Portes du Soleil has a massive 650 km of pistes spread across 12 resorts.

The countries has two main mountain ranges, the Pyrenees and the Alps. Some of the glacial resorts in the Alps also offer summer and year round skiing.

French resorts do vary a lot in style - from traditional farming villages like Chatel to purpose built developments such as Flaine or Tignes. What the more traditional resorts lask in convenience (there is often very little "ski in" accommodation in traditional resorts) they more than make up for with their charm and beauty.

French resorts are also famous for their good food, good wine and good hospitality. Most ski areas have a wide selection of mountain restaurants and resort based restaurants, bars and clubs to suit all tastes and budgets.
